The System (for) Hasty Evaluation (of) Literature (in the) Future (referred to as S.H.E.L.F. hereinafter) is software used to manage and index books. Currently there are ~1400 books in the system, with no scaling issues appearing.
S.H.E.L.F. (v1) is built as a classic Ruby on Rails web application, and uses the Bootstrap CSS framework. It is able to ingest books either manually, or lookup information based on the Google Books API (and so pairs well with a handheld barcode scanner). S.H.E.L.F. (v1) then allows for efficient search for books, and filtering based on specific fields.
S.H.E.L.F. (v2) is built as a distributed desktop app. In addition to all the features of S.H.E.L.F. (v1), S.H.E.L.F. (v2) features mandatory authentication, full version history and no server maintenance.
